Ways to download videos from YouTube/Vimeo?

I know there are numerous threads about how to download videos. But, the Search function stinks, so here is another one.

I have a program that I use (iSkySoft), but there are other ways to download.

What do you use to download videos from the internet?

I love 4K Video Downloader for youtube.

For other videos, I use OBS Studio, but there's a learning curve, and you have to install third party audio software if you're on a mac. Plus it's real time so it's more video capture than download.

https://yt5s.com/en172 still works for me for youtube videos. The usual caveats apply regarding closing all the popup ad windows that come up, etc.

Vintage Vfer asked that question in VF. If anybody can copy this to her in Videofitness I will be thankful.

Opera Browser has an extension called Skyload. I've downloaded hundreds of retro workouts from YouTube using it. It allows you to download only the audio in mp3 or audio plus video in mp4. It's easy to use and very useful. It allows to download a lot of videos at the same time. It's not fast but it's very effective if you use Opera. If I remember it right, it allows to download from several other websites, not only YouTube.

I have only used the 4k Video Downloader and have been happy with it. It's very simple and I can download 30 videos a day with the free version.

I saw SnagIt software. Mostly for screenshots or capturing portions of documents. But it also does a good job of capturing video.

When I was just googling this I came across this easy free method.
It works for me on Windows 10 desktop.

Just set up the video you want to record, full screen, start playing it
press the "windows key" + Alt key + R to start recording
a small bar will appear near the top right of the screen with a red dot, recording time and blue stop button
Press the blue stop button to finish recording
The file will be here, in MP4 format:
C:\users\<user name>\videos\captures

It's meant for gaming but works for any other purpose.

You can do a similar thing to what Carol describes with Quicktime on the Mac, but good lord the files are ridiculously large using that method.
