Question A Tracy Anderson question thread...

I didn't click with Tracy back in the day. The only one I still have is her Mat Workout. I need to pull that one out again. I think I remember it as being actually relaxing.

I'm looking for a high-rep program to finish out the year. I'm looking at TA or maybe Callanetics or maybe barre. Or, I dunno!

What do you like about her workouts? Do you do them regularly or just once in a while?

Here are the VF Reviews for some of her workouts:

Tracy Anderson

Let's discuss!

This is so timely!! I'm just now dipping my toes in the TA pool due to a hand/wrist injury making me forgo any heavier weights right now, and I. have. so. many. questions! Like, what's the true differences between the Metamorphosis sets because it appears some of them have the same workouts....is that true? If not, which should I acquire?? One? More? And is Continuity a DVD set or something else? Is it part of Metamorphosis? What are all these numbers I see being referred to??

I wish the search function on VF worked...it'd make my life easier as googling returns, well, not always what I'm looking for.

I clearly have a lot of confusion and I have many questions. But as a person who loves barre/Callanetics, etc., I managed to miss the boat on TA long ago for many reasons. Looking forward to any discussion that might happen here.

Ahhh TA...all I can remember are threads of warning re: hip and wrist overuse injuries and then threads like these fine old popcorn moments...

Hah, popcorn for sure. She does say a lot of things I snicker at and ignore because the workouts themselves are good. People have complained about the lack of cues in her workouts but the more I do them, the more I think her not talking is, um, perhaps not such a terrible thing. (running to duck for cover now)

I hardly know anything about her. I saw a recent article about how she charged people $900 a month to hold a spot in class. Then, I read somewhere to just google her name followed by the word fraud, controversy, lies, or lawsuits and tons of stuff came up. I also found it odd that she doesn’t hold one fitness certification. Needless to say, I never felt compelled to do her workouts after that…..

I also read this article: http://http://www.indianapolismonthly.com/longform/getting-ripped-tracy-anderson/

Okay I’ll risk getting flamed.

So I jumped on the TA bandwagon when she released Meta / Continuity. I got the best results of my life. I completed 2 years of continuity then branched out. I’m back on TA because my 62 year old pudge is not making me happy.

Meta is a 90 day program (9 workouts, repeat each 10 times, take one day off a week). After Meta you switch to continuity, the same set up. She created 4 centrics (hip/glute/ab/omni). The arm and ab sections are the same for each, the lower body segments differ but there is some overlap. After 2 years, the workouts are the same for all centrics. I started with hip – completed 2 years. Then I tried glute but my low back couldn’t deal with it. The plan is 10 days on each workout, take off one day a week. Add on cardio after each workout. I would alternate her cardio days with low impact days. Lots of people report good results without using her cardio.
someone posted 2 years worth (I think it's hip centric)

Mat is probably my favorite of hers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ii3i5tJMi8. The music, pace, set all great IMO.

Perfect Design is a 3 dvd set. I think it was meant to be a 90 day program, each dvd for 30 days. But you could just split them up for the weeks left in the year. I’ve never even attempted PD 3 – too scary but I love PD 1 for travel – all you need is a mat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHv8jF8Zc_0

Right now there is quite a bit of her current content (from her subscription) on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@baddieworkout not sure it will stay there for too long as it looks like someone is posting what they are playing from her pay site. I have no desire to even try the advanced ones LOL.

Here’s my youtube tracy playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...beTFOpXAP-74o_
I could go on and on but…

This is really helpful to me, so I thank you so much! One of those links is one I was using while contemplating which Meta set to get, and you've cleared up some of that confusion for me too. Oh, and please, feel free to go on as much as you'd like! Particularly when you say "best results of your life," now I'm super curious!

thanks.

Of the 2 links, which one is the mat workout you're referring to?

The Tracy Anderson Method Mat Workout:
In a room with French doors behind her and to the left, chairs and small tables; she's wearing black top and black pants, black shoes.

TA Mat Workout for Beginners:
Dark set with lights in the baseboards, she's wearing black top with red pants and red shoes.

this one - this is the original runs about an hour.

the other one; (https://www.youtube.com/playlistist=...JTysSvfMd4fY5x)

is part a dvd that includes 3 beginner workouts each around 25 minutes. The third one she labels as intermediate. The second one is all standing and it's a favorite of mine, particularly when traveling.

kittybug - results: I was a size 4 in pretty much everything -- Express editor pants for work for instance. Stayed in that range for a long time. Now 8 and 10 are uncomfortably tight. sigh.

Another option for those who want to try Tracy but didn't click with her are Body By Simone, Hamelin d'Abell and LEKFit. Those are really good workouts as well.

Eventmom - Thank you for sharing! I have her Meta set and a lot of her other dvds and have yet to try them! You may push me in that direction! I always say what doesn't work for one person or you're not comfortable with might be a goldmine for another person! Post away about your results!!!!
