Pistol Squats

I cannot do these! Everytime they come up in a Zuzanna workout, I cringe. I just find them so hard.

Does anyone have any tips on doing these? Cathe had another version of this in STS and I stunk at those two. TIA!

To sit/get up on a chair for starter is good with one leg out. If you have a TRX or any other suspension is also very good to help out with your upper body to get up. Those are hard!

Have you tried the chair version? I think I heard that you are supposed to stand up from the chair at first rather than sit down; I think this could work really nicely with the high step, if you have one. Then you can keep making the surface lower.

I've also seen some great videos on YT, where the instructor showed how to modify using either a TRX or bands. I'm sure if you search you can find something that shows how to do them that way. (Basically, they either used the TRX or hoisted the band over a sturdy doorway/bar and used the band as an assist--this provides the same kind of assistance you'd get using Iron Woody bands to assist with pull-ups.)

The Tone It Up girls had a great video showing how to work up to doing these (I think it was actually Katrina in the video). It's on YouTube which is blocked at work. I can try and find it later this evening.

I looked but can't find the vide you are referring to. If you can find it again, can you post a link? Thanks!

This may or may not be helpful (I haven't tried these yet and cannot do pistol squats):

When I did STS, I used my step with about 7 risers. It made it higher than
a chair and easier to do.

My best progress with pistols came from using the suspension trainer. You could hang a regular rope----just something that would help you take some weight off in the deeper position until you build strength.

Steve Cotter is the bomb when it comes to pistols.

He has an entire DVD devoted to pistol instruction.
