I just read the second "Hector's Journeys" book, Hector and the Secrets of Love. I like this quirky series, and I'm bummed that my library system doesn't have the next one, Hector and the Secrets of Time.

HP & the Cursed Child.... hmmm. Not as bad as I thought it'd be, but I had VERY low expectations. I would've liked it better were it not written as a script; it was missing those details that make the HP world so rich. Also, I thought the characters were somewhat caricatures of themselves (like poorly-written fanfic). So, not terrible...but not what we all love about HP. (If your library has it, read it, but I wouldn't spend the money on it.) |

The story itself? Eh. I wish she'd write more fiction set in that universe, without necessarily referencing Harry and friends (and enemies).

I'm currently reading Phantom of the Opera after seeing the show for the 3rd time. It is a good read and adds some dimensions to the story that aren't captured in the musical.
I also recently read: The After Party by Anton DiSclafani (women's fiction) - I enjoyed this one more than her first book - The Yonahlsee Riding Camp for Girls (which was ok, but had a yicky plot line) Until You're Mine by Samantha Hayes (psychological suspense - even though I had a clue about how it would end before it ended, I enjoyed the journey to get there - I think Sherry recommended this one, and, of course, I enjoyed it as I enjoy all of her recommendations!) A Court of Thorn and Roses - Sarah J. Maas (Young Adult Fantasy) a sort of re-telling of Beauty and The Beast. I enjoyed it and have the second one in the series Court of Mist and Fury on my library hold list. I am planning to read the abridged version of Les Miserables next, unless something comes in from the library. I do have the full version, but I don't think I could read 1,400+ pages right now. It is funny, a former co-worker and I were once reading this at the same time. I was reading the full version and she was reading the abridged version and we both didn't know there was an abridged version- she thought the abridged version was the full version and she was shocked when I showed her my paper copy (this was way before digital books!) Take care, Donna |

I'm awash in choices, and can't make up my mind what to read.
Not much time for reading lately, so I still haven't finished the third Barry Hughart book. On top of that I have the new Louise Penny, the new Naomi Novik and the new Invisible Library book by Genevieve Cogman to choose from. So far, I've coped by reading just the first few pages of each to get a taste. I love it when I have so many interesting options! I'm thinking the Louise Penny will come first, then the Novik, then the Cogman. (Poor Barry Hughart will just have to wait!)

FYI JK Rowling is coming out with the screenplay of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them this fall, it takes place in a different time and place than the HP series. https://www.amazon.com/Fantastic-Bea...e+to+find+them But it is a screenplay not a book exactly.
