Copying the audio portion of DVDs onto an older iPod

I just found out that I have some upcoming business travel in the next few months. I'd like to take some of my workout DVDs on my old iPod, but it doesn't support video files. Is there a way to get just the audio from a DVD into iTunes?

I have a small program called DVD Audio Extractor that can rip the audio off DVD's I've done for most of my workout videos so that I can put them on my mp3 player. The Spinerval ones translate to audio very well.

It's best to use on videos where the headphone cord won't be in your way when working out.

Third generation, I believe. It's about the size of a deck of cards, and has the click wheel. The screen is black and white.

If you have a Mac, I'm pretty sure you can use Garage Band for this. You can import the video to Garage Band by dragging the video's icon into the project screen. Then, you can edit the audio (or not), and export it to itunes. If you live near an Apple store, you can go to one of their free classes and they'll show you exactly what to do. Of course, you'll get way more information than you're after. . .but maybe you'll end up writing a hit song while you're at it . Good luck!
