It depends ...

For me it depends on the terrain. Easy hiking trails - my Keen's are great cuz the rubber-covered toes helps with tree roots or stones I may hit. However they don't work well on gravel trails like rail-to-trails cuz the sandals become "stone magnets" and I have to stop to remove little pebbles - annoying! So I use regular walking sneakers for those. On smooth sidewalks, my Birkenstocks are great as are the Keens or Chacos or even Hokas.

I’ve always liked Tevas, but my next pair might be from Xero.

I like Birkenstocks.

Funny, but after reading this post, I checked my email and saw an ad for Reef sandals. They looked really comfortable.

I really like my Ecco's. Well enough that I bought a second pair a few years after my first pair.

If you're talking about sandals for exercise, the only ones I have tried so far are Tevas and I really like them. If you are wanting something a little less sporty, I've had really good luck with Earth, Aetrex, and Taos. They all have good arch support and comfy footbeds--and they look great! I've had lots of compliments over the years on these three brands.

As for closed toe, I just don't like closed toe sandals unless I can get away with wearing a toe sock with them. Otherwise, my feet and shoes end up getting smelly after a few wearings. I've found some nylon ones at Target (in the past) and more recently online (Amazon) and they work very well and stay mostly hidden from view.

HTH,

Donna

I'm a long-time fan of Tevas and Keen.

Happy shopping!

LOL! I saw the same ad! Following this thread for recommendations!

I don't have any specific recommendations but I have purchased sandals from LL Bean and Lands' End and found them to be comfortable and attractive, but not sure how durable they would be for long walks/hikes.
