Favorite Instructor for Strength

After the thread on Jessica Smith's strength workouts and hinging, I was curious about which instructors everyone preferred for strength workouts.

I mostly do Jessica's strength workouts, but there's a few others I like. I've done Lift with Cee strength workouts, and Improved Health. I've also done a few Fitness with PJ workouts. Senior Shape's strength moves didn't click for me, although I love her personality. I've never done a Cathe workout. When I started home fitness ten years ago, I was too intimidated and thought she was too advanced for me.

I worked out pretty exclusively with Cathe for years, but haven’t been able to do a Cathe strength rotation in a really long time. I turned 56 in March and just can’t keep up with that kind of volume in a strength workout. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been trying out Sydney Cummings’ Summertime Fine workouts on YT and they are awesome! Sydney is so inspiring and a very motivating trainer. I don’t lift nearly as heavy as she does, but I still get a great workout. I know some of her other series are more challenging, but Summertime Fine is perfect for me. Plus the music is great! I also like that in this series she just does the move for time so I don’t feel the need to pressure myself to reach a certain number of reps. If you decide to try her workouts definitely watch the video she has that tells her story. This weekend she had a fitness get together in North Carolina where people came from all over the world to work out with her. There were 1,000s of people working out with her on a football field. It was very inspiring to read about how she has touched so many people’s lives.

I watch Justina Ercole's you tube videos, and she has high praise for Sydney Cummings. I've checked out Sydney's channel, but haven't tried one yet. I'll have to do that. Thanks for the review!

Cathe - Love Cathe! I’m really enjoying STS 2.0! I also subscribe to Cathe Live, which has tons of workouts.

Caroline Girvan - I’ve done a lot of her You Tube Workouts and subscribe to her app. Just finished Beastmode on the app a few weeks ago and it was excellent.

Joel Freeman - His LIIFT More program on BODi is awesome! I did the program twice and plan on doing another round after December.

I’ve been doing heavier weight, lower rep workouts for the last couple of years. I’m trying to build up more muscle as I’ve been concentrating more on cardio for so many years. As I get older, I’m realizing how much I need to be stronger just for everyday life stuff like grocery shopping, etc.

I rely mostly on Cathe for strength, but I also like Kathy Smith's original Secrets set, and Muscle Up Lift to be Fit, by KCM.

I’ll be a broken record and say KALEIGH COHEN, lol. I wish I’d made a note of when I started her workouts, but I’m sure it’s been a couple of years since she became my mainstay. Occasionally, I try something new…but I always come back.

I've been doing a lot of heavy lifting with YT instructors and have several that I use quite a bit- Chris & Edi, Jasper McDermont, Caroline Girvan, Sydney Cummings, Daniel PT Fitness, Tiff & Dan, Kayleigh Cohen, and Michelle Briehler to name a few. I recently discovered 50Fit on YT, and have only done a functional fitness and a cardio workout, so can't say if I like her weight workouts, but she does have several on her channel. I have noticed that she is quite focused on functional fitness which is so important especially as we age!

And for DVD instructors I like for weight work- KCM, Tracie Long, and Jari Love come to mind. However, I rarely use DVDs these days as there is just so much available on YT!

My favorites - Cathe, Jari Love, and KCM. There are others I like but I always come back to these trainers for strength.
