Last night I finished The People We Keep. I picked it up b/c it was set in Ithaca NY (home of Cornell University), but only a small part of the book was there, and it was kind of all over the place. The main character kept moving rather than getting settled, and I felt like I could never settle into the story.

Next up is Ms. Demeanor. It was one of the books recommended by Judy Blume (on display when I visited her bookstore in Key West this summer), so I am feeling optimistic about it!

Well, I got about 50% through Practical Magic and I’m throwing in the towel. I don’t like a single character, and every bit of the story is just so blahhh and depressing. I mean, I don’t especially love the movie, to be honest, but I was hoping the book would better.

It wasn’t.

I loved the book. I was extremely disappointed in the movie.

Lol, so many people seem to love the series. I was certain I’d love it. Thank goodness there’s plenty of reading material out there to fit us all!

She wrote the other books so many years after she wrote Practical Magic. The Rules of Magic is my favorite and has a very different mood than Practical Magic.

Same. I was hoping for a cozier book, I guess.

I finally finished Billie Jean King's autobiography All In and it was very good, though the end chapters felt a bit jumbled and "laundry-listy" in terms of her activities after retiring from tennis. I'm glad people like Coco Gauff are bringing up her name because I don't think a lot of people under middle age today know just how different and difficult it was for women in sports, even though we still face a lot of challenges today.

Just finished

The Hidden Child by Louise Fein

It was good. It really held my interest towards the end.

Onward to the next book!

Almost finished this. It's a bit goofy, but I think most Lipman books are, and I've enjoyed it.

Got a big stack of new novels from a local library used book sale earlier this week. Before I get to those, I need to read a library book, Less is Lost (follow up to Less). After that, I'll probably read The Chaperone, one of my book sale books, because it looks like something my mom would also enjoy, so I want to read it before I see her at Thanksgiving. Funny thing - the author is Laura Moriarity, but I originally picked it up because I thought it was author Liane Moriarity! Still, I do think I will like it.

The Chaperone is REALLY good. There was a movie adaptation on PBS that was good too, but the book was better.
