This book got mixed reviews but I loved it -- Special Topics in Calamity Physics, by Marisha Pessl. It is long and definitely tries your patience at points, but if you can hang in there, it gets really good.

The Glass Castle is a good quick read. I have Eat Pray Love on my shelf but somehow can't get to it.

I recently got back into reading and my favorite one so far is.....
Cold Rock River by J.L. Miles

It was an amazing book and so interesting. Has anyone else read this one???

I also liked The Choice by Nick Sparks.

Loved Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri. Easily going to be one of my favorites for the year.

I liked Eat, Pray, Love also.

I read Special Topics in Calamity Physics in summer 2006. I agree, it did get mixed reviews, but I also really enjoyed it.

I'm currently reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Next up is Janet Evanovich's latest. After spending the last nine months reading pre teen and teen books with my students, I needed a brain wash. (I have to admit though that I really enjoyed The Golden Compass.) Someone mentioned Turning Angel by Jeffery Deaver: I loved that one. I have a lineup of books featuring Mary Magdelene lined up for the summer, too.

I'm in a book club and have read a lot of the books mentioned--I can vouch for The Glass Castle, and others. Also, The Kite Runner is good, as well as Three Cups of Tea, Water for Elephants, I could go on ... I just got Under the Tuscan Sun out from the library yesterday, so hopefully I'll enjoy that and it will be much better than the movie! I also love Nicholas Sparks.

If you're looking for something light to read by the pool or on the beach, my girlfriend from my book club is an author who just came out with her second novel. She writes romantic suspense, and she's a very entertaining writer. Her name is Laura Griffin and she wrote "One Last Breath" and "One Wrong Step." The second book is actually set in Austin, TX, where we both live, so that's interesting!

ETA: Yes! The Secret Life of Bees was great too. I did feel the same way as some about Eat Pray Love (the woman was privileged and selfish), but most of the girls in my book club liked it. I've also read all the Sue Grafton mysteries--she created a cool character in those!
