I highly recommend seeking out a Menopause Specialist. Unfortunately, there are none on the tiny, undeveloped island that I live on, but if I could, I would. My family and I aren't in a situation where we can travel, and we don't know when we'll be able to. I'm almost 54, and am a few years post-menopausal. I've recently started estrogen patches and progesterone, thanks to my doctor here, but she's no menopause specialist. We're both doing the best we can, until I hopefully get to see one. The good thing about a specialist is that they'll work with you throughout. They'll help you choose options that are best suited for you. No one should have to suffer through all the symptoms, especially when we're all going to be post-menopausal for the rest of our lives. This article may be helpful.

Thank you! I went back to my old gyn this year; he was my ob-gyn long ago. We're the same age and he was appalled at her behavior. He was more than encouraging and when I asked him about the weight gain, he said "You know, it's not impossible. It's just going to be challenging. But if you want anything badly enough, you'll find a way." He was also quite knowledgeable about perimenopause and agreed that I've been in it for as long as I've thought. His words: "You know your body better than any blood test." Quite a difference experience this year!

Lori, I think of you often, since I know that you've had a tough time with all this, as have I. I love what he has to say. Hopefully, God willing, you and I, and anyone else here who' struggling as well, will all be able to lose the excess weight. I agree with him. It's not impossible, but it can be done.

It's also the complete unknowing of when or if I may ever feel better again -- it's been nearly 4 years now and my cycles are still regular but my symptoms are just at their worst. And I'm only 48, so knowing it could be more years of this crap is just depressing. Glad to know I'm not the only one though! |
