I just finished The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain. I really liked it!

Pam, I just finished that a few weeks ago; I found it very engaging. I think there's actually a sequel.

I'm reading The President's Daughter by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. It's a roller coaster ride of a book.

I'm almost done with Homecomings by Marcia Willet. It's a good book.

I'm also reading The Ones We Leave Behind by Deanna Lynn Sletten, another good book. It's on Amazon Prime Reading (for free) for those who have that.

I literally just ordered two Marcia Willett books on Amazon! The prices finally dropped on a few. I know they are cheap on the kindle, but I still prefer actual books.

I really enjoy her books. I had posted about her in this thread years ago. I forget which of hers I read first.

Did anyone else nervously pre order Jodi Picoult's new book that is coming out the end of this month? I still did not get through her last one, but I hope to like this one better.

I finished Bohjalian's Double Bind; it was very engaging but I thought the ending was a bit of a cheat (no spoilers, but sort of like the movie The Sixth Sense - which I love - but it's less skillfully done).

I have 5-6 novels that I've picked up at used book sales, so I went through them to pick out my next one. Unfortunately, they are all thriller types (which I enjoy) but all focused on suicide and murder. I like those kinds of books, but I am having a tough time at my job right now (which many of you know is in mental health - I'm a psychologist seeing students for therapy at a college counseling center), and I just can't see reading anything I currently have.

So, I need some recommendations for more light, uplifting, positive novels (or authors who write same). Give me some ideas and I will check to see what my library system has. Thank you!

Beth - I love Debbie Johnson's series of books set in the Comfort Food Cafe. Well written and lots of quirky characters. I've read them mostly on the Kindle because she's British and her books aren't as available here.

I finished The President's Daughter and don't recommend it. I posted a positive comment about it a few days ago. That was when I was on about page 200. Then, I read the other 400 pages - yes, it was too long - and found the plot lines and the characters so cliched and unbelievable.

Now, I'm reading the Sunflower Sisters by Martha Hall Kelly. So far, so good, but I'm not very far into it.

Looks like my library doesn't have those, but I'll keep an eye out.

I am a little reluctant to start a new series - any funny, warm, light stand-alones people would recommend?

Well, it’s a series but any one of them would work as a stand alone. They are cozy mysteries, light and very funny. It’s the Southern Sisters mysteries by Anne George.

Beth - If you’re looking for light reading, have you read any Elin Hilderbrand? I love her books & just finished her Christmas themed Winter Street Series. It is a limited series, but only 4 books and they are short.

ETA I loved The Rumor and Summer of ‘69 by the same author, they are stand alones.
