I've been having a Goldilocks kind of time with books recently. Most of the books I have started are too something.

The Happiness Plan - Susan Mallery - Too full of stereotypes and characters with irrational views and fears.

Return to Valleto - Dominic Smith - This was too boring or literary for me or something. I couldn't get into it.

Beach Read - Emily Henry - I was disappointed by this.

The Cafe at Beach End - RaeAnne Thayne - I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It was better than her past few and I was drawn into it.

Risen - Angela Hunt - This was a good story.

Only the Beautiful - Susan Meissner - This is a beautiful and gentle story.

I'm reading the scifi book Passage by Connie Willis. I like it, but it feels very dense - I think it's a combo of small print, long chapters, and few breaks. After I started, I took a break for a quick read, #36 in Kellerman's Dr. Delaware series, Serpentine.

Haha - I love that description! I happens to me a lot especially coming off a book I really, really enjoyed.

I'm reading two books, as I usually do - and I like them both. Recently, I've been going through a lot of books and liking only a few of them. The two books I'm reading now are:

The Liar's Girl by Catherine Ryan Howard - She's a new author to me and I like her writing a lot. This has been a good mystery.

Very Valentine by Adriani Trigiani - I'm basically devouring this book. It's really good. I originally heard about this author in this thread.

I was on a roll with reading books I really enjoyed and then suddenly disliked two in a row.

1. Emotional Labor: The Invisible Work Shaping Our Lives and How to Claim Our Power

2. All the Lonely People, a novel by Mike Gayle. I didn't like it at all. I gave it two stars on Goodreads then thought about it for a while and decided to drop it down to one star since there were so many things in the book that irritated me. It has great reviews and two of my friends gave it four stars, but I really didn't like it. I think it was supposed to be like, A Man Called Ove, but not even close.

Starting Marmee now, "...a revealing retelling of Louisa May Alcott's beloved Little Women, from the perspective of Margaret "Marmee" March..."

I’m reading Windigo Island by William Kent Krueger. It takes place in the area where I live, so I’m enjoying all the references to places I know, but not sure yet how much I’ll like the book in general.

Erica, I'll be interested to hear what you think of this. I think I've mentioned several times that I was named after Beth in Little Women, and I've read several modern/retelling versions, most recently the pair of novels Meg and Jo and Beth and Amy (which I liked).

I’ve read a lot lately.

Lots of books by T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon’s pen name for her adult books):
Paladin’s Grace, Paladin’s Strength, The Seventh Bride, Clockwork Boys, Wonder Engine, A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking

A few books they’ve made rom-coms of:
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
Happiness for Beginners

Historical fiction:
Lady Tan’s Circle of Women (Lisa See)

I finished Very Valentine last night. It was really good.

I continue to read The Liar's Girl and will probably finish it today or tomorrow.

I'll go to the library today and pick up a new set of books. I'm moving through the wish list I created in my library account, and I'm trying new-to-me authors.
