https://yt5s.com/en172 still works for me for youtube videos. The usual caveats apply regarding closing all the popup ad windows that come up, etc.

When I was just googling this I came across this easy free method.
It works for me on Windows 10 desktop. Just set up the video you want to record, full screen, start playing it press the "windows key" + Alt key + R to start recording a small bar will appear near the top right of the screen with a red dot, recording time and blue stop button Press the blue stop button to finish recording The file will be here, in MP4 format: C:\users\<user name>\videos\captures It's meant for gaming but works for any other purpose. You can do a similar thing to what Carol describes with Quicktime on the Mac, but good lord the files are ridiculously large using that method.
