Cats scared of cucumbers?

Saw this on GMA this morning.
I'm a dog person but I thought this was interesting.
I wonder what a big cat would do? (tiger, lion, etc.)
Probably nothing.

I read an article that it isn't particularly cucumbers, but any unfamiliar object left by them while they are eating. I saw a rather disturbing video of a cat actually slamming against the wall while the person filming her laughed. Won't be doing this with my cats.

I guess we (humans) would do the same thing too. Jump.

I hate that video - I think it's really cruel to do those kinds of things to our animals just for a laugh.

This just seems like the human equivalent of a rubber snake trick. I bet cucumbers seem snake/reptile like to them on 1st glance. Eating is relaxation mode so the startle response is enhanced.

Agree about scaring for amusement. I despise being startled unless I'm half expecting it (like Halloween etc). I did see a funny video about a dog dressed in a Halloween costume and running around scaring people. It was funny because you could tell he was running toward them for a pet but people would only run away faster. He was so adorable and friendly. But I was so worried that someone would hurt him (out of reflex) instead of running away.

+1

Cat experts say it mimics a predator and creates anxiety in cats where they most need to feel safe, at their food source. It's a cruel trick and needs to be called out.

I wonder if a tiger or lion would react the same way?
