Adding Toning/Weights to Leslie Sansone/ Walking Workouts

Does anybody add toning or weights to Leslie workouts and have a higher calorie burn or heart rate? I added some squats and standing leg lifts to a Leslie 3 mile walk and also did 15m of Toning with Kit on YouTube (which is basically dancing that uses Zumba sticks or weights for an upper body workout). I used the Toning with Kit workouts as a walking workout because the steps were easy. My heart rate was in the target zone and my calorie burn was higher than when I usually do Leslie. I was thinking of adding this to my normal Leslie workouts. Thanks!

I tried adding 1lb weights to Leslie's "Walk It Off in 30 Days" a few days ago because I was curious if it could get my heart rate up. I had been doing Insanity Asylum the last few weeks so going to Leslie I knew I had to do something drastically different if I wanted a similar burn.

The 1lb weights alone didn't challenge me. I will try it again with 3 or 5 lb weights. That might do the trick. However with the 1 lb weights, I had to exaggerate the movies. I always kept my hands moving and for any side steps, I did speed skaters. For marching in place, I did a light jog. It got my heart rate up enough to feel a moderate burn. Just enough to say I had a decent workout.

I use fitstix with most of the Leslies. I've come to loathe her toning belt, so I suspect I'll be using fitstix with those workouts, too.

I often add 1 or 2 lb weights to my Leslie walks. I also like doing her walks on my rebounder.

I haven't tried it with Leslie, but I have an old Gilad step workout where you lift light weights at the same time you're stepping. I like that this workout manages to get my heartrate up without impact. I generally use 3 lb weights, 5 lbs once in a while. I'm sure the same idea would work with Leslie workouts. Just be careful not to fling your arms too much.

Thanks for the tip on Toning with Kit. I did 53min this morning of her videos, plus a couple of other instructors and the time flew by. So much fun. I used the ends to my Firm toning stick from way back. I believe they are two pounds. I need to buy some 2.5lb toning sticks.

Debra Mazda's Let's Get Moving II uses light hand weights - I like the workout a lot!

The other day I revisited Heavyhands Walk Plus and, using 3lb Heavyhands, got a good workout. I also still like Anni Mairs' Life Force a lot, and it's pretty easy to add 3-5lb dumbbells to most Leslies.

Step N Tone..one of the most underrated workouts ever! Gets it all done in a short period of time.
