Caroline Girvan - Heel Elevated Squat with yoga block

I'm new to her workouts, and just did IRON Series 30 Min Quad Workout - Dumbbell Leg Day | 6 - there's a move that she did in this one, and in a previous one, the heel elevated squat with a yoga block. This move is a bit awkward for me. I find it somewhat easier using a thick book. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips?

A yoga wedge would work and be comfortable.

I use dumbbells. I place the dumbbells in a line hex to hex, and I place my heels on the handles. Another way I do it is have my stepper on a slant(higher riser on one side) and stand on the stepper.

The Firm used to do that move with a 2 by 4.

I have a couple of pieces of wood of different thicknesses that I use. A yoga block is kind of high and small.

Cory Everson uses a 2x4 also and it's nice and stable. I bought 2 from the hardware store, and they're maybe 3' long.

This is what I did.

I used to use weight plates, but now my favorite is an exercise pad. I think on Amazon it was called a yoga balance pad. I got it for skater squats and for under my knees for a couple of other exercises, but what I use it the most for is heel-elevated squats and for under the toes on calf raises.
